Oh Family . Portrait

This beautiful family is so dear to us. They have been enduring challenging times since their mother had her first stroke in 2004. She had another one later on but luckily, she’s a fighter and has a remarkable spirit. Each sister has been delaying their own dreams to take turns taking care of their mother, but I fully believe that they will be blessed for their love and patience and perseverance.

Rachel . Personal Workshop

Love is a better teacher than duty. -Albert Einstein

Ever since the first year of our business, we frequently received questions and inquiries on photography and business related questions. One by one, we answered each one of them, and don’t get me wrong, we love receiving emails because it tells us that we’re trusted enough to seek advice from, but it has come to the point where we receive more than we can handle in our day-to-day (sorry recent emailers!). It’s been requested and in long discussions between H and I to hold our own workshops, but timing just hasn’t been right. I realized though, timing’s never going to be right since we spend all that time responding, so it’s just a matter of making the time.

So for now… we are announcing GH Kim Personal Workshops! One-on-one or two-on-one workshops that will be spent interacting, learning, discussing, shooting, editing, eating, and funning, all personalized to each workshopee! Okay, so funning isn’t really a word but I didn’t want to ruin the flow. In any case, we love photography and we love people, so you can be guaranteed that we will always teach from the heart.

Below are some shots of Rachel, our first Personal Workshopee! We met back at Christine and Richard’s wedding where she was a bridesmaid. She has a background in Communications and English and is currently working for a marketing firm. With all of those skills and her good sense of aesthetics combined, I think that is a making of an incredible photographer right there! Isn’t she lovely?

If you’re interested in a Personal Workshop, please inquire at workshops@ghkim.com.

Tina . Portrait

The weatherman can predict all he wants, but no one can really predict what the sky will hold, especially in Seattle. Seattle photographers are forced into being ready for anything, and by anything, I mean, eye-squinting sunshine to pouring rain in a matter of seconds. But I love Seattle and I’m perfectly fine with that. We had rescheduled Tina’s session because of the gloomy weather but it got to a point where we just had to go with it because of time constraints, and I’m so glad we did. Yes, there was sun and there were raindrops but that also created a dramatic backdrop for us. Tina is pretty, smart, fun, and mature for her age. She is graduating high school this year and following in her oldest sister Laina’s footsteps and going to Chapman University, “Named to the list of top universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review.” Congratulations Tina and looking forward to seeing amazing things in your future!

Jin and Sao . Portrait

H and I were guests at Jin and Sao’s Oahu wedding back in February but I got a chance to photograph them the day after. I have known Jin for almost nineteen years now and it’s heartwarming to have witnessed her journey, growth, beauty, and now her union. I don’t know Sao as well but from what I can tell, he adores her and compliments her so perfectly.

Anne and James . Portrait

Hope all of you got what you wanted from Santa this Christmas, but most importantly enjoyed the love and laughter of your loved ones!

I’m thrilled to share another anniversary session (my personal fave to photograph!)! This one was especially fun for me because it was of my dear friends Anne and James. Anne is as cute-as-a-button and our friends call James oh-so-debonaire. They lead the small group that Hun and I are involved with, and James is one of the pastors of our church. They are among the most generous people I know where I almost feel like it’s my birthday every time I see them, and I see them a lot. Most of the couples we shoot, we only get glimpses into their relationship together, but since we know these two well, I can say wholeheartedly that they are a portrait of love. I love how they love each other. I love how they love others. I love them. After you see their session, you might fall in love with them too.

Yurika and Chris . Portrait

I was bummed when we were unavailable to photograph Yurika and Chris’ wedding last year, so when they contacted again about taking photographs for their one year anniversary, I was more than thrilled! I think that more couples should take anniversary pictures to document such love. Something about Chris’ calm demeanor always seemed to put Yurika at ease, and they share a really sweet kind of love. We had quite the adventure; puddle dodging and huddling underneath a shelter with many others while it rained buckets, watching as if it were a water show. But it’s that very refreshing rain and the beautiful autumn leaves that made me fall even more in love with my city.

Anjelah . Portrait

I clearly remember when my good (Vietnamese) friend Tim popped up a window on our laptop exclaiming, “You have to see THIS!” back in 2007. Fast forward two years and never would I have guessed that I would be meeting the YouTube sensation in person, let alone photograph her! With her beauty and exponentially rising fame, one would think that Anjelah Johnson would be intimidating, but she’s the exact opposite. She’s completely down-to-earth in the truest sense and immediately made me feel comfortable, like an old friend. I have no doubt that we’ll be seeing this natural beauty as a leading lady in romantic comedies (my fave!) and other great prospects to come. And how amazing is her bed?!

Min Family . Portrait

Nicole found us years ago when xanga was popular and had been showering us with the kindest messages all the way from the other side of the nation, Washington DC. About a month ago, we finally got to meet face-to-face and the sisters and mother were all so sweet and beautiful. I loved how the sisters coordinated with their LBDs (little black dress for the non-fashion savvy), but had their own style and accessories. And they worked it!

Ambra . Portrait

If I never mentioned this before, I absolutely love my job! I can’t lie though, like any job, there are pros AND cons, but that’s besides the point. Not only do I get to be surrounded with people at their happiest and beautifullest*, I get the opportunity to meet so many different types of people and make good friends along the way.

Ambra is one of those good friends. In fact, she is one of my favorite people. Besides, how could I not like someone who gave me an ego-boost by telling me, “You are so gorgeous!” as I entered her bridal room on her own wedding day?! What kind of bride does that? ;) She is beautiful, intelligent, meticulous, thoughtful, and funny – yup, the whole package. She is responsible for perfectly capturing in words our personalities for the ABOUT sections of this blog and our main site. Her and her husband Andre also happen to be our most loyal clients. Now without further ado, some shots of this extraordinary woman…
