Ooh La La

August 29, 2008

I still love my cupcakes, but there’s been a recent new sweet in my life. At first glance, they don’t look all that impressive, but taste buds are pleasantly surprised.

Not to be mistaken with the American version – coconut macaroons, these delectable macarons originated from a French baker’s oven dating back to the early 1900s. These colorful mini hamburger look-alikes are showing up at weddings as party favors or a part of dessert buffets.

Below are some places you can find them:

Seattle - Le Panier

Beverly Hills – Paulette

Paris – Ladurée

Ooh, I love macaroons! There’s this bakery by my place, Bouley Bakery, and they have the absolute best raspberry macaroons!

Ooh La La it is! I can truly vouch for these petite little puffs of sweet goodness, with subtle fruity and chocolatey hints that make your taste buds sing – Grace got me a box of these for my birthday, and I devoured every single one of them, except for the two that I shared with my siblings ;) They are crunchy, airy, and chewy – all at the same time! Thanks for introducing me to these delicious macaroons Grace! Love em.

Grace – Nice! Will have to try Bouley Bakery next time I’m in town.

    Jean – My pleasure! :)

Mina – Jane said she tried the ones from Whole Foods and they weren’t very good plus more expensive. No good.

Lynda – check out http://www.michelpatisserie.com/ and let me know how it goes.

I love macarons! I’ve had ones from La Panier and Bakery Nouveau, but they do not compare to the ones in Paris! I miss them so much. :(
